2022 Grüner Veltliner
Gold Medal - 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; VinePair - 90 Points and "The 14 Best Grüner Veltliners of 2023"
In Stock
Winemakers Notes: Grüner is already an abstract variety as it is, so our goal this year was to give it a more blatant definition. We drove this wine in a new-world cool climate style that would accentuate more of its hidden aromatics such as gooseberry and prickly pear. The palate has strong grapefruit flavors with a mineral complex to complement the aromatics, and an acid profile that will work with, but never overwhelm an intricate food pairing.

Awards
Gold Medal - 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; "The 14 Best Grüner Veltliners of 2023" - VinePair (2023); 2023 TEXSOM Awards - Silver Medal; 2021 Jefferson Cup Invitational - Jefferson Cup Award (2020 Vintage); 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition - Best of Class (2020 Vintage)
Vineyard Notes
We have 1.2 acres of Grüner planted in Norah's Vineyard. The site itself is one of our most reliable producing sites. It never gets frosted and produces consistently heavy crops. Grüner loves to crop heavy when you let, this is something we constantly fight. This wine is always truly made in the vineyard. If you let the vine simply do what it wanted it would grow loads of unruly vegetation and produce excessive amounts of clusters that would never ripen. We have to implement very strategic pruning and canopy management techniques to ensure we get the fruit quality we want.
Production Notes
Grüner is fairly hassle free when it comes to the winemaking end. Our goal is always to try and make sure it's as varietally expressive as possible without excessive temporary fermentation aromatics.
Winemaker Notes
The 2021 vintage leant itself to the creation of more delicate wines. Grüner is already an abstract variety as it is, so our goal this year was to give it a more blatant definition. We drove this wine in a new-world cool climate style that would accentuate more of its hidden aromatics such as gooseberry and prickly pear.
Food Pairing Notes
Since Grüner Veltliner is a crisp white wine and is a perfect palate cleanser for richly flavored foods, you can't go wrong with pairing with classic Austrian dishes like sautéed kidneys or Asian spices. It also pairs well with vegetable such as artichoke and grilled asparagus.

What a fabulous way to enjoy a sunny day with friends. The GV was the perfect complement to our picnic - it went with everything. Not sweet, dry but refreshing enough for hot weather. Must get more immediately!

This Gruner Veltliner really surprised us with classic bright Sauvignon Blanc-like aromatics and flavors. Certainly best Gruner I have ever had and I have had several Austrian product. This rivals the best of NZ Sauvignon Blanc wines and to think that it is produced in Michigan is surprising. The fruity aromas are followed with mouthfeel that lingers on the palate.

This was our favorite during our tasting. We took a bottle to a family dinner and they enjoyed it as well. I am usually not a dry wine person and I cannot get enough of this one
